How it often works
Whether through an initial phone call or an email we will arrange a mutually convenient time for a free informal consultation over the phone. Every child, young person or adult client is different and this is my opportunity to learn about the communication difficulties they face, interventions to date, and the support networks already in place. Some clients may then require a formal assessment while in other instances it may be possible to identify the most appropriate form of intervention from the initial telephone conversation. There are occasions when I may not be the best person to help in which case I will do my best to signpost you to the most appropriate service.
Depending upon the nature of the problem, we may agree a series of one-to-one appointments directly with client, or best practice may be to work with parents or carers to help them deliver the therapy. In certain situations, parents, carers or the client may require a written report/assessment that can be made available to education, health or other services. In many instances I am able to coordinate input with teachers, support staff, and health providers – including NHS Speech Therapists – to provide a seamless service.
Although most of my private practice is with children who have speech sound or articulation difficulties, I have a professional interest in working with adults with swallowing difficulties, adults with learning difficulties, people with dementia, and anyone experiencing problems with communication.
